Ayhan Akten: Türkiye produces about 70% of the world's hazelnuts, yet earns far less than it could because it sells them as raw material.
Türkiye leads the world in hazelnuts with a 70% share and earns around 2.5 billion dollars a year from them. Producers say this income could multiply if value-added products were developed.
Ayhan Akten said that moving from selling raw material to selling processed products could lift this figure to 4 billion dollars in a short time.
Akten said state support for value-added products would be more effective if it were given per product and brand rather than per region.
